Modern disposables are not the simple, one-note devices they used to be. Many now include power modes, adjustable airflow, a screen, and a rechargeable battery. Used well, those features make a device last longer and vape better. Used blindly, they are just words on the box. So let’s go through how to actually use them — and get the most out of what you have paid for.
Regular vs Boost mode
Most feature-rich disposables offer two power modes, and the difference is simple. Regular mode runs at standard power. It is cooler, most efficient, and gives you the most puffs overall. Boost mode — sometimes called turbo or hit mode — pushes more power to the coil for warmer, denser, more intense vapor.
There is a trade-off, though, and it is worth understanding. Boost mode uses liquid faster and can roughly halve the rated puff count. So a good rule of thumb is regular mode for all-day use and longevity, and boost mode for a stronger hit now and then. Switching between them as the mood takes you is exactly what the feature is for.
Airflow: tighten or open the draw
If your device has an airflow control, it changes the whole feel of the vape. Tighten it for a firmer, mouth-to-lung draw with sharper flavor. Open it up for an airier, direct-to-lung draw with bigger clouds.
There is no right setting here — only your preference, and it is worth experimenting. If you are not sure which you like, our guide on MTL vs DTL walks through both in detail. Among our devices, the Air 40K and the Onyx Cloud X both offer adjustable airflow to play with.
Charging: use every drop
Most big-capacity disposables recharge over USB-C, and this matters more than people realize. Because the e-liquid usually outlasts a single battery charge, recharging is how you actually reach the rated puffs instead of binning a half-full device. So keep a cable handy and top up as you go, rather than running the battery flat and forgetting about it.
A little battery sense helps, too. Do not leave a device charging unattended or overnight, use a standard USB-C charger rather than the fastest brick you own, and top up before it dies completely. Treat the battery well and it will happily see out all the liquid inside.
Read the screen and indicators
If your device has a screen, use it. Battery and e-liquid readouts tell you when to recharge and when you are genuinely near the end. That one small habit is the easiest way to avoid an unpleasant dry hit at the bottom of the tank — you simply stop before the wick runs dry.
Priming and first use
Straight out of the box, give a brand-new device a moment before you chain into it. A couple of gentle primer puffs let the coil draw up e-liquid properly, which sets you up for clean flavor from the start rather than a slightly hot first hit. It is a small thing, but it gets the device off on the right foot.
Fixing a weak or harsh hit
If the vapour goes thin or weak, the usual culprit is a low battery or a device near the end of its e-liquid — so recharge it and glance at the screen before assuming it is faulty. If a hit turns harsh or tastes scorched, you are most likely vaping too quickly; give the coil a few seconds between puffs so the wick can re-soak, and it should recover. And if you have switched to boost mode and it feels too warm for you, simply drop back to regular. More often than not, what feels like a fault is really just a setting or a matter of timing — an easy fix once you know what to look for.
Care and storage
A little care protects both flavour and battery. Keep the device out of direct sun and hot cars, store it upright to avoid leaks, and keep it well away from children at all times. Extremes of heat and cold are the enemy of both the liquid and the battery.
Quick tips to make it last
Pulling it together: take smaller puffs, favor regular mode for everyday use, recharge before it dies, avoid chain vaping, and store it sensibly. None of it is complicated, and together it gets you closer to the number on the box and a better vape along the way.
